Hello! This is your neighborhood Aaron. I am using my fighting game icon because when will I ever use it again. Two things!
1) The Magical Items/Gifts page is now linked in the main navigation for easy access! Everyone should fill it out! I love reading everyone's interactions; I'm sure I speak for the rest of the mod team when I say they are all really fun to watch.
2) We wanted to just make sure everyone knew a little canon background/mod reasoning behind the low points scores in the Magical Items/Gifts Page! Before anyone feels discouraged, here is the reason:
- Gods are extremely hard to please. In canon, gods only give favors to the ABSOLUTE BEST KIDS. Annabeth gets a baseball cap because she is by far and away the bravest and most intelligent Athena kid; Clarisse gets the blessing of Ares because she is the strongest girl in camp and has the innate power to punch a monster in the face and watch it crumble to dust in front of her!
Of course, this is completely unreasonable in a roleplaying game! We want to make it fair for everyone. Which is why ALL OF THE CAMPERS (yes, you!) can apply for items using the point system.
- But we don't want to make it too easy, or everyone will have lightning spears, and then it would be a slaughter fest! Which is why the mods, and conversely, the gods, are being so picky.
For reference, each god has a particular type of style they're looking for! So while Ares kids can and will get points for punching things extremely hard in the face and drawing blood/sending kids to the clinic, the same thing done by say, an Aphrodite kid? Would be totally out of place. Gods that have easier requirements (Philotes with friendship/affection, Iris with "uniqueness" and following your inner spirit, Aphrodite with "love and beauty," etc etc) will also be harder to please, because it isn't fair if every other kid but Zeus's kid gets something, while the poor people trying to please the Big Guy are stuck at four points.
For Example: Ange raised the dead for the first time! That's an impressive skill. However, she didn't do anything with them -- they stood there until she sent them back to where she came from. While an impressive first display of power like that certainly merits recognition from Hades, the fact that she didn't lead them to, say, attack to help her team win means that it earns much less points than it would have otherwise. Ange's total is one point!
Non-Combative Example: Marine, Daughter of Aphrodite, sews a new dress. While it is a particularly lovely dress, one that fits her very well and compliments her beauty, this skill isn't new to Marine. In fact, she's very comfortable making good things for herself! While Aphrodite is impressed by her daughter's fashion choices, and certainly feels proud of her, she doesn't feel the need to reward her with anything because fashion is something Marine already knows how to do. Therefore, Marine's total is zero points. HOWEVER, if Marine were to rope someone else into getting a makeover and make them a new dress and have that person love their new look/dress/attitude, then Aphrodite would be most impressed! That sort of thing would earn points because it involves a level of novelty and difficulty.
Also, basic camp training does not count for special gifts/points. The gods don't reward for doing good at something you should already know how to do.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave them here. We will all try to answer them for you as best we can! Also if you have any questions about what a certain parent might be looking for, I am happy to provide suggestions and ideas.
